Successful doctorate of Andreas Kirchmayer!
On Friday, July 11, 2025, Mr. Andreas Kirchmayer successfully defended his dissertation titled: “Investigation of the Influence of Different Grain Boundary Phases on the Mechanical Properties of Nickel- and Cobalt-Based Superalloys”.
The main objective of his work was to identify which phases preferentially precipitate at the grain boundaries in polycrystalline high-temperature alloys and to determine their influence on the alloys’ oxidation properties. Additionally, his dissertation also explored the impact of hydrogen embrittlement. With the successful defense of his Ph.D. thesis, Mr. Kirchmayer reached a significant milestone in his academic career.
Dr. Andreas Kirchmayer is now working at SiCrystal GmbH in Nuremberg, a company that specializes in silicon carbide substrates.
The MSE I department extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Andreas Kirchmayer on his successful Ph.D. and wishes him and his family all the best for their professional and personal future.
