Hydrogen analytics

In order to investigate the influence of hydrogen on various materials, it must first be inserted into the material in a controlled manner. This step is called hydrogen charging. At the chair WWI two methods for hydrogen charging are available. To quantify the absorbed hydrogen, a thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDSA) system is also available. Following each hydrogen charging, mechanical and scanning electron microscopic examinations are performed to characterize the effect of the hydrogen on the material.

The following hydrogen loadings are carried out on WW1:

  • electrolytic hydrogen charging
  • high pressure hydrogen charging
  • Thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS)
