Generation of nanostructured materials

The accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process is used to produce nanostructured materials at the institute WWI. The ARB process is suitable for the production of pure nanostructured monomaterials, but also of tailored (ultrafine-grained) sheets with graded mechanical properties by introducing particles through spraying. Another possibility is the production of finely laminated metal composites (LMCs). These LMCs are characterized by a layer-by-layer combination of different materials. In this way, the properties of the different materials are combined, resulting in promising mechanical and functional properties of these laminates.
